A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer fatally shot a motorist during an enforcement operation in Houston's East End, according to the report.
ICE said Lorenzo Salgado Araujo allegedly rammed a law enforcement vehicle, ignored repeated verbal commands, and used his vehicle in a manner that officers considered a threat while attempting to evade arrest.
The report said the officer fired in self-defense, striking Araujo, who was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he later died.
The incident occurred during a targeted operation on Canal Street early Tuesday morning.
According to the report, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General are leading the investigation into the shooting.
Civil rights advocates, including the League of United Latin American Citizens, also urged authorities to ensure transparency throughout the investigation.
