ICE Reports Nearly 50,000 Arrests In July As Immigration Enforcement Expands

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 49,571 people in July, the highest monthly total of President Donald Trump's second term, according to government data analysed by the Associated Press.

The July figure represents a roughly 70% increase from February, when ICE recorded 29,241 arrests following two fatal shootings in Minnesota.

ICE's expanded operations follow a major increase in congressional funding and the hiring of about 12,000 deportation officers and investigative agents. The agency has also shifted from highly visible immigration raids in major cities toward less prominent arrests across the country.

July's total was far above the pre-Trump baseline of slightly more than 8,000 arrests per month. The figures underscore the administration's intensified effort to expand immigration enforcement and advance its mass-deportation agenda.

State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said the department is working with the Department of Homeland Security to identify visa holders who entered as temporary visitors but later sought to remain permanently through asylum.
