The state of Illinois and the city of Chicago filed a lawsuit Monday against the Trump administration, challenging its decision to deploy National Guard troops to Chicago amid continuing protests against federal immigration enforcement.
The complaint argues that the federalization of Illinois and Texas National Guard units is “illegal, dangerous, and unconstitutional.”

It seeks an immediate halt to the deployment, which the White House said was intended to protect federal officers and assets in the city.

The move follows similar actions in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., where President Donald Trump ordered troops in response to anti-ICE demonstrations.
