US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is visiting Reliance Industries’ Jamnagar refinery in Gujarat to explore closer cooperation on refining Western Hemisphere energy supplies, according to an interview with India’s Network 18.
The facility, owned by billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s company, can process 1.4 million barrels of crude daily. Reliance has also become the largest buyer of Venezuelan oil outside the United States, according to the report.
The visit comes as American diesel prices remain elevated ahead of midterm elections. Rubio also highlighted Reliance’s reported involvement in plans for a new US refinery. However, the company has not publicly confirmed the scale of its investment, despite Trump previously describing the proposed project as a $300 billion deal.
