Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claims its naval forces captured an American-designed Anduril Dive-LD underwater drone near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz in what it described as a complex intelligence and operational mission.
The Dive-LD is an approximately 5.8-meter-long, 2-meter-wide autonomous underwater vehicle weighing about three tonnes.
Analysts say access to the system could help Iran improve its underwater capabilities, while raising concerns that its technology could eventually be shared with Russia or China.
The IRGC said it would release images of the captured vessel. The reported seizure comes as tensions remain high around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy route carrying roughly one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports.
