Iran Says U.S. Strike Hit Wedding Party, Killing Four

Iranian state television reported that a U.S. strike hit a wedding gathering in southern Iran, killing at least four people and injuring dozens.

According to IRIB, three missiles struck a private home in the Sirik district of Hormozgan province during a wedding celebration. The network reported nearly 70 casualties, including six people in critical condition. Iran’s Foreign Ministry earlier put the number of people killed or wounded at about 50.

IRIB aired footage showing damage to the home and interviewed a local fisherman who said the gathering was for his daughter’s wedding. The report said one missile went through the roof of the room where guests had gathered.

U.S. military officials have not confirmed that an American strike caused the damage.

The Associated Press and The New York Times, citing U.S. Central Command officials, reported that the military was aware of the allegations. Officials stressed that the United States does not target civilians and contrasted its conduct with that of Iran’s IRGC.
