Iran has seized a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker traveling through the Strait of Hormuz, a U.S. defense official told the Associated Press. Flight-tracking data showed a U.S. Navy MQ-4C Triton drone monitoring the incident for hours. A private security firm reported that three small boats approached the tanker before the takeover.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes, with the U.S. Navy maintaining regular patrols.
