Chinese satellite imagery and intelligence have helped Iran improve its ability to target US forces and ships in the Middle East, according to American intelligence assessments described to CNN by four sources.
US officials say China’s role is difficult to quantify, and it remains unclear whether Beijing has directly ordered the assistance or is allowing it to continue. Russia has also provided support, while Iranian battlefield experience has strengthened its capabilities.
The Trump administration has previously sanctioned Chinese satellite companies accused of supplying imagery that enabled Iranian attacks. Officials say Iran has become increasingly effective at using missiles and low-altitude drones against American positions.
According to CNN, the issue could also arise during President Donald Trump’s meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
