North Korean hackers are suspected of stealing more than $351 million in cryptocurrency from exchange Bitget, making it the largest known crypto theft of 2026, according to the company and blockchain intelligence firm TRM Labs.
Bitget said attackers gained unauthorized access to its hot wallets, which are connected to the internet and used for active trading. The exchange suspended withdrawals following the breach. CEO Gracy Chen said the attack closely matched tactics associated with North Korean hacking groups.
Bitget said its $464 million user protection fund should be sufficient to cover the stolen assets. Chen did not provide a timeline for restoring withdrawals.
TRM Labs estimates North Korea-linked groups account for roughly three-quarters of cryptocurrency stolen worldwide so far in 2026. Such operations have previously been linked to efforts to generate funds for Pyongyang’s weapons programs.
