Israel’s Defense Forces said it carried out a targeted strike in Bandar Abbas, killing Iranian naval commander Alireza Tangsiri, who it accused of orchestrating efforts to block the Strait of Hormuz.
The IDF claimed, in a social media post, that Tangsiri was involved in maritime attacks targeting regional and US-linked energy infrastructure.

According to U.S. Central Command, the strike was confirmed, with Admiral Brad Cooper stating that Tangsiri’s death “makes the region safer.” The report said operations against Iran’s naval capabilities would continue.
Iran has not officially responded. The strike comes amid heightened tensions after US and Israeli air operations began on February 28. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has sharply declined, with Iran reportedly targeting vessels in retaliation.

"We continue to forcefully strike the targets of the Iranian terrorist regime.
Last night, we eliminated the Commander of the IRGC Navy. This man had a great deal of blood on his hands; he was also the one who led the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. pic.twitter.com/XZPXK4ivXt
The IDF also said it killed IRGC Navy intelligence chief Behnam Rezaei. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the operation reflects close US-Israel coordination aimed at weakening Iran’s military leadership and securing strategic waterways.
