Vice President JD Vance is set to campaign Friday at the Cleveland-Cliffs Middletown Works steel plant in his Ohio hometown, a site closely connected to his family's history.

Vance has described the facility in his memoir Hillbilly Elegy as an economic lifeline for his family, with his grandfather, James Vance, working there for nearly four decades.

Vance plans to use the visit to promote President Donald Trump's “America First” economic policies. The appearance comes as he campaigns for Republican Sen. Jon Husted and gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy ahead of competitive Ohio elections.

Cleveland-Cliffs is planning a major modernization of the Middletown facility, including upgrades to a blast furnace and cogeneration plant that could create up to 1,500 jobs. The project is awaiting an Ohio Environmental Protection Agency air permit.

The visit is part of Vance's expanding campaign schedule as Republicans seek to strengthen their position in key states.
