A federal judge has ordered the White House to restore press access for journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico, ruling that President Donald Trump’s ban was likely unconstitutional, according to the report.
District Judge Tim Kelly issued a temporary restraining order requiring the administration to reinstate the outlets’ “hard pass” credentials for 14 days.
Kelly rejected the Justice Department’s argument that delaying the order was necessary and said the administration had not provided sufficient evidence that the ban protected national security.
Despite the order, some journalists from the three outlets were still denied entry Thursday. The report said it was unclear whether the continued restrictions resulted from delays in reactivating electronic credentials or noncompliance with the ruling.
An attorney representing the outlets welcomed the decision, describing it as a defense of press freedom, due process and the rule of law.
