Judge To Hear Bid To Block Trump’s Proposed 250-Foot Arch In Washington

Three Vietnam War veterans and a historian are seeking a preliminary injunction to prevent construction.

A federal judge in Washington, DC, is scheduled to hear arguments on Friday over a legal challenge to President Donald Trump’s proposed 250-foot arch near Arlington National Cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial.

Three Vietnam War veterans and a historian are seeking a preliminary injunction to prevent construction. They argue that the project lacks congressional approval and could disrupt the historic visual connection between the Lincoln and Robert E. Lee memorials.

The Justice Department has rejected their claims, arguing that the plaintiffs lack legal standing and that initial construction would involve underground and foundation work.

Government lawyers say the structure could also serve national security purposes, citing sworn statements from Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin about protection against drone attacks.

According to court filings, construction could begin as early as November 5, pending approval. Separately, Arlington County has challenged the project over potential effects on airport flight paths and environmental reviews.
