The Kennedy Center is warning that it could face severe financial trouble within weeks unless President Donald Trump’s name is restored to the building, according to documents obtained by The New York Times and The Washington Post.
The draft resolution reportedly warns that the performing arts center could struggle to meet payroll and routine expenses, potentially pushing it toward bankruptcy.
Trump has indicated he could help raise funds, but the documents say he wants recognition for his role before taking part in a financial rescue or planned renovation.
The dispute over Trump’s name has also triggered litigation. The board previously voted to restore it, while court proceedings have delayed that move.
Meanwhile, trustees are considering new wording crediting Trump with the renovation and fundraising. The center is also considering an immediate closure after ceiling plaster fell inside the Grand Foyer, raising safety concerns.
