The Trump administration is preparing to shift key functions of the Department of Education to other federal agencies. The move is part of President Donald Trump’s broader effort to dismantle the department after signing an executive order in March aimed at restructuring or eliminating it. The announcement is expected at an all-hands staff meeting Tuesday.
According to a congressional aide, at least five major offices will be affected: the Office for Civil Rights, Office of Indian Education, Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, Office of Postsecondary Education and the Office of Special Education.

Staff will be reassigned to other agencies under an arrangement that leaves the Education Department with limited oversight.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon hinted at major changes by posting a video citing decades of Republican calls to abolish the department, adding, “The clock is ticking.”
McMahon has acknowledged that only Congress can fully eliminate the agency, but the administration is pursuing piecemeal restructuring.
