Russia launched a major missile and drone assault on Kyiv on Tuesday, killing two people and injuring 10, according to CNN. The attack came one day after US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Ukrainian officials as the Trump administration sought to revive stalled peace negotiations.

The three-day pause in attacks on the two capitals expired Tuesday, ending a temporary reprieve during the diplomatic meetings. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the Russian assault caused major damage to residential buildings and civilian infrastructure.

Emergency crews rescued people from a damaged five-story apartment building in Kyiv. A warehouse, garages and an educational facility were also hit. Strikes were reported in Odesa and Kharkiv regions, while a drone damaged a passenger train, though passengers and crew escaped safely.

CNN reported that Witkoff said talks had made “substantive progress,” including plans for further trilateral discussions. Meanwhile, Ukraine continues seeking additional air-defense interceptors, particularly to counter ballistic missiles.
