Lawsuit Targets Mamdani’s Pied-à-Terre Tax Rollout

New York City homeowners have sued Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the city’s finance director over the rollout of a new pied-à-terre tax, according to CNN.

The lawsuit alleges that some primary residences were wrongly identified as potentially subject to the surcharge. The plaintiffs are also challenging the public release of a property roll containing names and addresses of more than 900,000 homeowners, arguing that the disclosure was unlawful.

The surcharge applies to qualifying non-primary residences, including properties valued above $5 million and certain co-ops valued at $1 million or more.

The plaintiffs are seeking removal of the public list, suspension of homeowner response requirements and a halt to enforcement while the case proceeds. A judge is expected to hear arguments on a temporary restraining order.
