Mark Zuckerberg’s yacht missed a Coast Guard call seeking help for a boat that ran out of fuel off Alaska, according to CBS News.

The 387-foot Launchpad was reportedly closer to the stranded 21-foot skiff than the vessel that eventually responded. The cruise ship Wilderness Legacy towed the skiff to Farragut Bay after receiving the call, according to the Alaska Beacon.

A passenger aboard the cruise ship later claimed the yacht had ignored the request, prompting criticism from other passengers.

Meta disputed that account. A spokesperson said the yacht’s crew was operating on a different radio channel and therefore did not hear the initial request. By the time the crew reviewed the Coast Guard communication, assistance was already underway.

Meta also said Zuckerberg and his family were not aboard the yacht at the time. The company said the skiff was not considered to be in distress and that everyone involved was safe.

The yacht was built in 2024 and reportedly cost about $300 million.
