President Donald Trump has signaled his intent to back a 2026 primary challenger against Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), a frequent critic within GOP ranks. In a sharply worded Truth Social post Monday night, Trump called Massie “lazy,” “disingenuous,” and “an embarrassment to Kentucky.”

He criticized the congressman’s record of opposing key Trump-era legislation, including tax cuts, the border wall, and restrictions on taxpayer-funded sex changes for minors.
Trump’s post linked to the @FireThomasMassie account, which launched a 30-second ad slamming Massie’s votes and calling for his ouster. The video features Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson, highlighting Massie’s refusal to support the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB).
Though Massie identifies as a fiscal hawk, Trump noted his inconsistency —particularly a 2023 vote to raise the debt ceiling under President Biden. Trump concluded: “Looking for someone good to run against this guy… someone I can endorse and vigorously campaign for!”
