Vice President JD Vance voiced strong support for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ahead of a closely contested election, while accusing the European Union of interfering in Hungary’s democratic process, reported by CBS News.

Speaking in Budapest, Vance argued that EU pressure, including withholding funds, amounts to foreign influence.

The report said Vance dismissed criticism of his own visit as interference, insisting he was backing a leader who defends national sovereignty and traditional values.

He urged Hungarian voters to support Orbán, calling Hungary a key ally in preserving Western civilization.

Orbán faces a tough challenge from opposition leader Péter Magyar, with polls showing him trailing. The election is scheduled for April 12.

EU officials rejected Vance’s claims, stating that elections in Europe are decided solely by voters. Tensions between Brussels and Budapest remain high over governance, migration and rule-of-law issues.
