Lindsay Clancy Lawyer Calls For Plea Talks, Trump Pardon

NN legal analysts said pursuing a plea could allow Clancy to receive mental health treatment while accepting some level of criminal responsibility.

Lindsay Clancy’s defense attorney has signaled that he is open to negotiating a plea deal with prosecutors after a mistrial in the Massachusetts mother’s case, according to CNN.

Attorney Kevin Reddington said he is willing to discuss an agreement with Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz rather than necessarily proceed with another trial. The jury deadlocked after one juror prevented a unanimous verdict in the case involving the deaths of Clancy’s three children.

Reddington had previously declared victory following the mistrial, but later acknowledged he could have been more measured in his comments toward prosecutors. CNN legal analysts said pursuing a plea could allow Clancy to receive mental health treatment while accepting some level of criminal responsibility.

Cruz has not yet announced whether prosecutors will seek a retrial. Clancy has maintained that she should not be held criminally responsible because of her mental health condition.

Reddington also appealed to President Donald Trump for a pardon. However, the case is being prosecuted by Massachusetts, meaning the state’s governor has pardon authority, not the president.
