A man in his 50s died Monday evening after his bag became trapped in the doors of a southbound A train at the Utica Avenue station in Brooklyn, according to investigators.
As the train pulled away shortly before 6 p.m., the man was dragged along the platform before striking a pole. He suffered severe trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene by NYPD officers.
It remains unclear whether the man was boarding or exiting the subway when the incident occurred.
Similar fatal incidents involving passengers’ belongings becoming trapped in subway doors have occurred in New York in recent years, including deaths at Columbus Circle in 2022 and in Chelsea in 2016.
