MongoDB CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai has stepped down to join Meta Platforms as chief enterprise platform officer, reporting directly to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Desai will lead a newly established Meta Enterprise Platform as the company expands its focus on AI-powered services for businesses.
Following Desai’s departure, MongoDB appointed former CEO Dev Ittycheria as interim president and CEO. The company’s board highlighted Ittycheria’s previous leadership and role in expanding MongoDB’s revenue during his tenure.
MongoDB shares fell about 17% following news of Desai’s departure. The company nevertheless reaffirmed its third-quarter and fiscal 2027 guidance.
MongoDB is scheduled to hold an Investor Day on September 29, where executives are expected to discuss its long-term strategy and AI-focused product development.
