Meta has introduced four new in house artificial intelligence chips as part of its expanding data center strategy, CNBC reported. The chips belong to the company’s Meta Training and Inference Accelerator family and are designed to power AI related tasks across its platforms.
The first chip, called MTIA 300, has already been deployed to support smaller AI models that help rank and recommend content on services such as Facebook and Instagram. Meta said the next generation chips, including MTIA 400, MTIA 450, and MTIA 500, will support more advanced generative AI tasks.

The company said the chips are manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor. By designing its own processors, Meta hopes to reduce dependence on expensive graphics processors from companies such as Nvidia and AMD.
Meta is investing heavily in artificial intelligence infrastructure, including new data centers across the United States. The company also recently signed major agreements to purchase large numbers of Nvidia and AMD GPUs.
