Meta is facing criticism over its new AI image-generation tool, Muse Image, after concerns emerged that it can create images using public Instagram profile pictures without notifying users, the BBC reported.
The feature is available through the Meta AI app, web browser, WhatsApp and Instagram Stories for users in the United States. According to Meta, users with public accounts can opt out through a separate setting that prevents their content from being reused for AI features.
Meta said Muse Image uses advanced AI to combine prompts and photos into downloadable images. The company plans to expand the tool to Facebook, Messenger and advertising products, while reportedly developing a video-generation version.
