Mike Fincke Retires From NASA After 549 Days In Space

NASA astronaut Mike Fincke is retiring from the agency after three decades of service, ending a career that included four space missions and 549 days in orbit.

According to the report, Fincke ranks fourth among NASA astronauts for total time spent in space and completed nine spacewalks lasting a combined 48 hours and 37 minutes.

After exactly 30 years with NASA, Fincke said he remains committed to space exploration and the agency's long-term goals.

According to the report, he expressed particular enthusiasm for efforts to return humans to the Moon and eventually send astronauts to Mars.

Vanessa Wyche, director of NASA's Johnson Space Center, described Fincke's career as remarkable and praised his three decades of dedication.

The report said Fincke plans to remain involved in preparing the next generation of engineers, explorers and leaders as human space exploration enters a new phase.
