A bomb blast in Moscow killed two police officers early Wednesday, just days after a car bombing in the same area killed a senior Russian military officer, according to Investigative Committee of Russia.

Officials said the officers approached a suspicious individual near a police vehicle when the person detonated an explosive device.

The suspect was also killed. Investigators are examining the scene, reviewing surveillance footage, and questioning witnesses, authorities said.

The attack follows Monday’s killing of Lt. Gen. Fanil Sarvarov, who died when a bomb planted under a car exploded nearby.

Russian officials said one line of inquiry is possible involvement by Ukrainian special services, though Ukraine has not claimed responsibility.

Moscow has seen several high-profile bombings since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, with some attacks blamed on Ukrainian operatives.

Authorities have not said whether Wednesday’s bombing is linked to the earlier assassination.
