Elon Musk is stepping down from his role as a special adviser in the Trump administration, ending a turbulent stint as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). His departure comes as his term as a Special Government Employee expires this month.
As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending.

The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.
In a post on X, Musk thanked President Donald Trump “for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending” and vowed that the DOGE mission “will only strengthen over time.” The billionaire had led efforts to slash the federal workforce and cut $160 billion in government spending.
The move follows weeks of criticism from Musk over Trump’s tax and spending bill, which he said undermines DOGE’s goals. He’s now signaling a return to his companies, Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI.
