Nepal Calls Recent Floods A Global Warning On Climate Change

Nepal’s Foreign Minister Khanal has warned that recent devastating floods should serve as a global warning about the growing impacts of climate change.

Speaking in New York, Khanal urged wealthy nations to provide greater financial support to countries facing climate disasters despite contributing relatively little to global greenhouse-gas emissions.

Former USAID official Jeremy Konyndyk criticized U.S. aid reductions affecting Nepal, including programs related to flood prediction and glacier monitoring. Khanal said climate change is “not theoretical anymore” and called for stronger international financing for recovery and resilience.
