Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the United Arab Emirates on Sunday and met President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, marking his first publicly acknowledged trip to the country, according to CNN and statements from both governments.
Netanyahu was accompanied by senior security officials, including the heads of the National Security Council and Mossad.
The visit comes one month before Israel’s October 27 election, amid renewed controversy over reports that the UAE and Egypt warned Israel about a potential Hamas attack before October 7, 2023. Netanyahu has denied receiving such warnings, calling the reports false and politically motivated.
His rivals have used the allegations to question his handling of the events preceding the October 7 attack. Neither government mentioned the reported warning in statements about Sunday’s meeting.
