As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepares for his third White House visit this year, President Donald Trump has made clear he expects a Gaza ceasefire “next week.”
While U.S. and Israeli leaders celebrate their strikes on Iran, Netanyahu faces growing internal pressure over Gaza. With more than 56,000 Palestinians dead and 50 Israeli hostages still held, Israel’s leadership is torn between pursuing a ceasefire or escalating military operations.

The Israel Defense Forces, now controlling 60% of Gaza, have recommended a diplomatic path. But far-right members of Netanyahu’s coalition demand total military victory.
Trump’s push for a deal comes as Netanyahu appears more open to negotiations, signaling the return of hostages could now be a priority equal to defeating Hamas.
Former IDF operations chief Israel Ziv called the moment a “crossroads,” warning continued war could collapse Netanyahu’s fragile coalition.
Trump and Netanyahu are set to meet Monday.
