The Minneapolis Police Department has released body camera footage showing the September 2 shooting at Shoreline Plaza, where three people were killed and six others were injured, including three police officers.
The incident began around 4:36 p.m. during an apparent custody exchange involving Carlton Neal Johnson II, who officials said had been facing eviction after months of complaints that included allegations of brandishing weapons.
The footage shows officers moving toward the ninth floor before gunfire erupted. A fire extinguisher struck by bullets created a haze as officers exchanged fire with the suspect.
Police said officers had been called to the apartment complex 438 times over two years before the shooting. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is continuing its investigation into the incident and the circumstances shown in the newly released footage.
