A government source told CBS News that surveillance footage from the night Jeffrey Epstein died contains no actual missing minute, despite a widely reported timecode jump that fueled conspiracy theories.
Earlier this month, the FBI released nearly 11 hours of video from the Special Housing Unit at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, where Epstein died in August 2019. Observers noted a one-minute time skip just before midnight, prompting speculation.
Pam Bondi insisted there was nothing nefarious about a missing minute in allegedly 'raw' footage from a surveillance jail camera. @WIRED performed a forensic analysis of the same video clip and found it was altered on Adobe Premiere Pro - I provide receipts. pic.twitter.com/zIUKHJZ0wZ

Attorney General Pam Bondi said during a July 8 Cabinet meeting that the gap may be due to a nightly video reset caused by outdated equipment. She said other footage shows the same pattern.
However, forensic experts told CBS News that such resets are highly unusual. Analysts also concluded the released footage was edited and sped up, and likely a screen capture rather than an unaltered file.
The DOJ, FBI, and Bureau of Prisons declined to comment further on the discrepancies. Epstein's death remains officially ruled a suicide.
