OpenAI has been issued warrants worth an estimated $5.5 billion in power infrastructure company SB Energy ahead of the firm's planned initial public offering, The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.

SB Energy is preparing to file public IPO documents and could seek a valuation exceeding $50 billion, with plans to raise between $5 billion and $7 billion in a potential market debut as early as next month.

The deal further strengthens the relationship between OpenAI and SB Energy as demand for power and data centers continues to surge alongside the expansion of artificial intelligence. Draft filings indicate that OpenAI and SoftBank Group are expected to occupy three of SB Energy's data centers.

Nvidia has also invested $1.5 billion in SB Energy and guaranteed up to $105 billion to support OpenAI's lease in Ohio, deepening the financial links between major AI companies and the infrastructure needed to power their systems.

SB Energy is also developing a fourth 900-megawatt data center in Scurry County, Texas, although it has not yet disclosed the facility's customers.

The planned IPO and OpenAI's large warrant position underscore how AI companies are increasingly tying themselves to the energy and data-center infrastructure required to support rapid growth.
