OpenAI Unveils ChatGPT Atlas, Its AI-Powered Browser To Rival Google

Via X

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Atlas, an AI-powered web browser designed to challenge Google Chrome and Gemini. Announced in a livestream by CEO Sam Altman, the browser is now available globally on macOS, with Windows, iOS, and Android versions to follow.

Its signature “agent mode”, exclusive to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users, allows the AI to perform actions such as booking flights, editing documents, or summarizing web pages.

Altman described Atlas as a reimagining of how people will “use the internet in the future.

The browser features memory capabilities that personalize user experiences and split-screen browsing to display webpages alongside ChatGPT responses. It also introduces “cursor chat” for real-time text editing.

Atlas enters an increasingly competitive field: Perplexity’s Comet browser and Google’s Gemini-enhanced Chrome are already vying for dominance in AI browsing.

OpenAI aims to position Atlas as both an intelligent assistant and a sleek, everyday browser.
