Sen. Elizabeth Warren has questioned the Pentagon's initiative to recruit highly paid private-sector professionals, warning that the program could create conflicts of interest and weaken public trust, according to CNBC.
The report said the Defense Department launched the Business Operators for National Defense (BOND) program to bring business expertise into military contracting and investment decisions.
According to CNBC, Warren asked Deputy Defense Secretary Stephen Feinberg and Office of Strategic Capital Director David Lorch to explain how the program will prevent conflicts of interest and revolving-door practices.
She requested details about participants, ethics rules, vetting procedures and the department's recruitment process.
The report said Warren also sought a detailed accounting of funding requested for the BOND initiative, the Economic Defense Unit and Wall Street recruitment efforts.
She further questioned what safeguards exist for executives from companies including Palantir, Meta and OpenAI who may participate in the program.
