Iran launched multiple ballistic missiles toward U.S. forces in the Middle East late Tuesday, but all of the projectiles were intercepted, according to U.S. Central Command.
The report said the missiles were fired by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in what Centcom described as a surprise attack. Axios, citing U.S. officials, reported that the intended target was a U.S. military base in Jordan.
Saudi Arabia said the operation responded to more than 30 recent drone attacks and stressed that it does not seek wider conflict but will answer any aggression.
The report said the renewed violence ended a brief pause in hostilities between Washington and Tehran, pushing oil prices higher. Separately, the U.K. Maritime Trade Operations Centre reported suspicious activity in the Red Sea, raising fresh concerns over disruptions to critical regional shipping routes.
