The Pentagon has announced the formation of a panel to review the military's 2021 COVID-19 vaccine mandate, examining how the policy was developed, coordinated, and implemented.

According to the report, the review will assess the decisions, planning, and execution of the mandate that affected thousands of active-duty service members during the pandemic.

The report said more than 8,700 service members either left the military or were dismissed after declining to comply with the vaccination requirement.

The panel is expected to evaluate the policy's overall administration and its impact across the armed forces.
