Pentagon Report Puts Iran War Cost At $33.4 Billion

A new Pentagon inspector general report estimates that Operation Epic Fury cost the United States $33.4 billion through June 30, while highlighting shortages in strategic weapons inventories and challenges in replenishing munitions.

The report, released September 14, covers U.S. government activities related to the operation through the end of June.

The report points to industrial-base bottlenecks that could complicate efforts to rebuild depleted weapons inventories. Earlier Defense Department data shows the fiscal 2026 budget request included $35.7 billion for missiles and munitions, underscoring the scale of the broader replenishment challenge.

The assessment adds to differing estimates of the conflict's overall cost and highlights the long-term logistical and financial consequences of the U.S. military campaign.
