Shayne Coplan, the 27-year-old founder of Polymarket, has become the world’s youngest self-made billionaire after the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) — owner of the New York Stock Exchange — announced up to $2 billion in investment at an $8 billion valuation.
Coplan founded Polymarket in 2020 to let users bet on real-world events like elections and Federal Reserve decisions.

The startup, once targeted by regulators for unregistered trading, paid a $1.4 million CFTC fine in 2022 and temporarily blocked U.S. users. It returned legally this year after acquiring licensed exchange QCEX.

Polymarket’s investors include Peter Thiel, Vitalik Buterin, and 1789 Capital, whose partner Donald Trump Jr. joined as an adviser in August.
ICE’s CEO Jeffrey Sprecher is married to Kelly Loeffler, a Trump cabinet member, further linking the firm to Washington.
