Russian President Vladimir Putin has acknowledged that no agreement was reached with U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war in Ukraine during their meeting in Anchorage in August.

His remarks appeared to dispel speculation that the two leaders had negotiated a breakthrough aimed at ending the conflict.

Responding to the comments, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that if any such agreement had existed, the fighting would already have come to an end. His statement reinforced the U.S. position that no formal peace deal emerged from the high-level discussions.

Putin also disclosed that Ukraine had presented proposals to halt fighting in certain regions during separate negotiations.

However, he said Moscow viewed those proposals as insufficient and dismissed them as a distraction rather than a meaningful basis for ending the conflict.

The exchange highlights the continued diplomatic deadlock over the war, with Russia and Ukraine remaining far apart on the conditions for a ceasefire or broader peace settlement.

Despite periodic negotiations, no comprehensive agreement has been reached, and hostilities continue across multiple areas of the conflict.
