Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) announced her campaign for South Carolina governor on Monday, officially entering the 2026 GOP primary. Mace, currently serving her third term in Congress, released a campaign video highlighting her strong support for President Donald Trump, who has praised her as a "fighter."
Once a Trump critic, Mace has since aligned herself with the president on key issues. She will face South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson in the primary. Mace has accused Wilson of mishandling an investigation involving her ex-fiancé, whom she accused of serious abuse.

Mace, 47, was the first female graduate of The Citadel and won her House seat in 2020. Her campaign marks a sharp shift from her earlier stance opposing efforts to overturn the 2020 election. She has since become a strong voice in GOP culture battles, including backing restrictions on transgender policies.
The race sets up a high-profile clash in one of the South's most reliably red states.
