Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will testify before the Senate Finance Committee on September 4, giving lawmakers their first chance since May to question him directly.

The hearing, expected to focus on President Donald Trump’s health agenda, comes days after a dramatic shakeup at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

CDC Director Susan Monarez was fired Wednesday, prompting three top officials to resign. Monarez is now challenging her dismissal. Democrats blasted the changes, with Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) calling Kennedy “a quack” and warning that the administration’s “extremism and incompetence are putting lives at risk.”

Kennedy defended the shakeup in a Fox News interview, saying the CDC “is in trouble” and may require new leadership. Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) said the high-profile departures demand oversight.

The hearing will also examine the administration’s broader public health strategy heading into the 2026 budget cycle, Politico reported.
