New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft said Ed Sheeran asked him to commit $2 million toward humanitarian aid following a dispute involving rapper Macklemore and his pro-Palestinian comments.
The dispute erupted after Macklemore made pro-Palestinian remarks during a performance at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. He was subsequently removed from the remaining US dates of Sheeran’s tour.
Macklemore later claimed Sheeran told him Kraft had opposed his appearance at Gillette Stadium and that other stadium owners had pressured Sheeran to remove him from the tour. Kraft’s latest statement did not address those claims.
Macklemore said criticism of Israel and support for Palestine should not be treated as antisemitism. Sheeran’s other supporting acts also withdrew from the tour, with Finneas saying artists should be free to speak about oppression.
The Loop Tour’s North American leg is scheduled to continue through November 7.
