Separately, First Lady Melania Trump will host Russian and Ukrainian representatives at the White House on Thursday to discuss a local ceasefire in the Kherson region. The six-day truce in Oleshky ended on Monday, with Ukraine accusing Russian forces of using the pause to strengthen their positions.

The Kremlin has also indicated that a meeting involving Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping could be arranged.

However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has insisted that Kyiv must participate in any negotiations concerning its future. US officials are also scheduled to meet European and NATO representatives to discuss security guarantees and reconstruction.
