With the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion nearing, the Kremlin has intensified operations across southern and eastern Ukraine in preparation for a widely anticipated spring offensive.
Russia’s main effort has been focused on the city of Bakhmut in Donetsk region.
Bakhmut’s capture would provide a stepping stone for Russia to advance on two bigger cities, Kramatorsk and Sloviansk in Donetsk, giving it momentum after months of setbacks ahead of the first anniversary of the invasion on Feb. 24, Reuters said.
