Russia Says No Decision Yet On Possible Putin-Trump Summit In December

The Kremlin said Thursday that no decision has been made on a possible December meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it was premature to discuss an agenda, despite Washington’s invitation for Putin to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Miami in December.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the invitation Wednesday following talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, creating a potential setting for another meeting between the two presidents. Putin and Trump previously met in Alaska in August 2025 for discussions focused on the war in Ukraine.

Peskov reiterated Moscow’s position that it is seeking a permanent “peace settlement” rather than a temporary ceasefire. The two governments have continued diplomatic contacts, but significant differences remain over how to end the conflict.

A December summit therefore remains contingent on further diplomatic decisions, including whether Putin accepts the invitation and whether the two sides can establish an agenda for talks.
