Russia’s New Superapp Will Control Internet Access

President Vladimir Putin is one step closer to a Kremlin-controlled Russian internet with the recently introduced Max – a multipurpose mobile app with no end-to-end encryption, making it easy to monitor.

Russia, along with other countries like China, is interested in digital sovereignty – where a country breaks its reliance on foreign-owned technology – in this case, through an “everything app” that allows the government to surveil and control online activity.
