Sam Altman Meets Trump Officials On AI Safety Testing

OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill and senior Trump administration officials to discuss artificial intelligence policy and future AI capabilities ahead of a key federal deadline.

According to the report, the meetings come before President Donald Trump's August 1 deadline for federal agencies to develop an artificial intelligence evaluation framework.

Altman also met with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles following what the report described as a significant security incident involving an OpenAI AI agent during internal testing.

The report said Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang was also in Washington, where he discussed semiconductor industry growth with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and manufacturing partnerships in Taiwan involving Emcore and Wistron.

President Trump said his administration intends to avoid overly restrictive AI regulations, arguing that maintaining U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence is essential to competing with China.
