Senate Passes Russia Sanctions Bill After Zelenskyy Visit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the U.S. Capitol on July 28 to urge lawmakers to strengthen support for Ukraine and advance legislation targeting Russia's wartime revenues.

Zelenskyy also pressed for additional Patriot missile interceptors and continued access to Starlink communications.

However, the bill faces uncertainty in the House. Speaker Mike Johnson and some Democrats have raised concerns that it could give Trump authority to impose tariffs of up to 100%, potentially affecting European allies and U.S. consumers.

Supporters argue the legislation would strengthen international pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and demonstrate continued American backing for Ukraine.

The House's eventual response could determine whether the sanctions package becomes law.
